Aberdeen - a visitor to Hong Kong favourite since the 1950's, you must visit Stanley when you are in Hong Kong, the absolutely wonderful Repulse Bay, Iggy and his maroon Ferrari, the Glam Girls at the iconic Peninsula Hotel, the fright inducing golden orb spider and eating a mini burger in a hotpot restaurant.

Aberdeen, Hong Kong Island

I think everyone that is planning to visit Hong Kong should read Noble House by James Clavell an iconic Hong Kong novel (and a 1980's TV Mini Series) - Aberdeen with the rather dodgy Jumbo Kingdom Floating Restaurant sat in the harbour features heavily.

Aberdeen has changed beyond all recognition since then, now it is a haven for fancy boats that berth at the Aberdeen Marina Club plus as the subway now goes to within walking distance of the harbour the whole area is being gentrified.

It remains a photographers dream however and there is still the mind boggling sampan trip around the harbour with a gimlet eyed 90 year old crone with no teeth and a hook..........

Hong Kong Tours

Stanley, on the South Side of Hong Kong Island and I have to say a personal favourite, it is one of the few places left in Hong Kong that still gives you the old British Colonial feel....

It can get very crowded on a weekend but during the week it is a very pleasant place to visit and the bus ride out there is amazing.....  a lot of people like to take a pop at the famous Stanley Market, it is a market that sells stuff or tat and you take it with a pinch of salt, in my book it just adds to the character of the place.

You can also stop and have a bite to eat and a pint whilst taking in the amazing seaview you get from the promenade.... and I will not even mention the tiger skin in the Temple next to Starbucks.

Repulse Bay, South Side, Hong Kong Island

Weird name, awesome beach, fabulous mall on the beach, crazy Temple on the beach and a Ferrari showroom - what more could you want... just visit on a sunny day.

Hong Kong Guided Tours

What I love about our fancy car owners is a lot of them like to do personalised number plates and some can be quite amusing, with this one - is the chaps name IGGY or is he a fan of IGGY POP? who knows and who cares, he has a gorgeous Ferrari.

The Glam Girls, the Peninsula Hotel, TST, Kowloon

I love the Peninsula Hotel, I am pretty much in there on a daily basis which is great because you get plenty of great photo opportunities.

This is one of my favourites, four very glamorous young ladies swishing their way through the iconic lobby.

If you want to see how the other 0.000000002% live then spend 5 minutes in the lobby of the Peninsula Hotel Hong Kong... or book a suite for the night.

Motorbikes in Hong Kong

I like motorbikes and like everything else in Hong Kong, bikes are a status symbol - with Harley's and Ducati's being ten a penny on the roads....   Sunday is motorbike day in Hong Kong as long as it is not raining.

Above is the Hong Kong Chapter of the Hell's Angels. (!)

The Golden Orb Spider

A lot of people have a fear of spiders, I do but only large hairy ones... at the Peak in Hong Kong we are well into spider season and boy there are some huge suckers out there at the moment..this one was about 12 feet above the ground... this is the female and on the web there was about 10 male spiders waiting in turn for a spot of fun prior to being eaten.

So hairy spiders, clowns and smurfs are my issues.

McLaren, awesome supercar

I love McLarens although I am not sure about the white colour... like a Lamborghini a MacLaren looks best in orange, lime green or blue., mind you I am not complaining I would take it in a heartbeat.

On a daily basis you can see McLarens at all of our fancy hotels.

A mini burger in a hotpot restaurant

I am by nature a very fussy eater and I will not eat hotpot, Korean food or Thai food ( actually the list is much longer!) so when us private guides got together for a social evening in Megan's Kitchen a famous hotpot restaurant I had resigned myself to a few pieces of beef and some soggy vegetables.

Imagine my surprise when I found out I was able to order a mini burger ( I had 2 ) a little on the small side and I did not use the chopsticks but they were quiet yummy.

The amazingly tall apartment blocks in Hong Kong

I am always amazed by the height of some of our apartment blocks in Hong Kong, quite a few like this estate (The Bellagio in Sham Tseng) are over 60 floors high - the apartments in here are between 900 to 1,200sqft and just about all of them have killer sea views.

Amazing.

Oh my golly gosh, the simply amazing Pagani Hypercar, hand made in Italy
